Getting Started
Q: Do I need a referral to see an orthodontist? A: No. You do not need a referral from a dentist to see an orthodontist. You can call us directly to schedule a complimentary consultation for yourself or your child.
Q: When should my child have their first orthodontic visit? A: The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first checkup by age 7. This is sometimes called the rule of 7. By that age we can spot developing issues with the bite and jaw early, even if treatment will not start for a few years. If you notice crowding, breathing concerns, or thumb sucking sooner, it is fine to come in earlier.
Q: Why should I see an orthodontist instead of a general dentist for braces or Invisalign? A: An orthodontist is a dental specialist who completes several additional years of training focused only on moving teeth and aligning jaws. Dr. Lewandowski is also board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. That depth of training matters most when a case is complex, and it means your treatment is planned and supervised by a specialist from start to finish.
Q: Can adults get braces or Invisalign? A: Absolutely. A healthy smile has no age limit, and many of our patients are adults. Cost, Insurance, and Payment
Q: Does dental insurance cover orthodontic treatment? A: Many dental plans include an orthodontic benefit, often for children and sometimes for adults. We work with most major insurance plans and will help you understand and use your benefits. Bring your insurance details to your consultation and we will review your coverage with you.
Q: Do you offer payment plans or financing? A: Yes. We offer flexible, interest-friendly monthly payment plans so treatment fits your family budget. You can learn more on our financing page, and we will go over the options at your visit.
Q: Does Medicaid cover braces in Washington State? A: In Washington, Medicaid (Apple Health) may cover orthodontic treatment for children who qualify based on medical need. Coverage rules can change, so the best step is to contact us with your plan information and we will help you find out what applies to your family.
During Treatment
Q: Do braces or clear aligners hurt? A: Most patients feel mild pressure or soreness for a few days after braces are placed or when switching to a new set of aligners, not sharp pain. It usually eases quickly, and over-the-counter pain relievers and soft foods help. The feeling is a sign your treatment is working.
Q: How often will I come in for appointments? A: For braces, most patients visit us about every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments. Invisalign patients often come in a little less frequently. We will set a schedule that works around school, work, and life in the Everett area.
Q: What happens after my braces or aligners come off? A: Once your smile is straight, you move into the retention phase and wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position.
